Locations of Online Casinos

May 11th, 2008

If you have been playing in online casinos for a while, you may have noticed that the vast majority of them are located in countries other than the United States. The primary reason for this is the presence of various laws recently passed in the country that severely restrict gambling activities in online casinos.

Many online casinos are currently located in the Carribean and the United Kingdom. If you are interested in establishing your own online casinos in these countries, you should look into the requirements that have been set by the governments in those particular countries. A thorough look at the existing tax structures in place in those countries–particularly those that have to do with online casinos–is also a worthwhile influencing factor to consider in your decision.

In Australia for instance, the government can take up to 50% of all the winnings from online casinos. It was only when the government realized that many Australians were gambling at online casinos in other countries was this number reduced to 8%.

The Legality Of Gambling at Online Casinos

April 8th, 2008

The widespread popularity of online casinos has brought about numerous concerns from all sectors about the legal ramifications of gambling online. If you want to be sure that you are not violating any of the laws by playing in online casinos, you would do well to check out the particular laws in your state or country, as they will often have varying–and sometimes even conflicting–laws and regulations. A good place to start your legal inquiries would be the office of the representative in your particular state.

At the present time, the Bush government has decreed that it is illegal for any U.S. citizen to engage in any type of gambling activity online, and that online casinos are not allowed to operate from within the United States. This is the main reason why many online casinos actually have their servers located outside the U.S.

Interestingly enough, recent surveys have shown that the majority of online gamblers are in fact from the United States.

In any case, these restrictions are mainly targeted towards the owners and operators of these establishments, and not to the players themselves. Many major online casinos will check your IP address before you play to see if you are in violation of any laws.

Online Casinos Regulated?

July 31st, 2007

Recently some proposals have been made about regulating online casinos in the USA. Which would open it up for Vegas to go online. This has both good and bad aspects to it. As it could make it difficult for current online casinos to be regulated by the US standards as only one person will be in charge of approving.. Does the word monopoly come to mind? Right now all online casinos are licensed and quite a number of them are listed on the London Stock exchange. Most are professional ran online casinos which have payout audits and reports. While in past years prior to 2000 there was some shady online casinos which definitely were not the honest. As in all business that eventually comes back to bit you. Which those operations are now out of business.

Online casinos have went through many transitions and we expect them to go through even more in the near future.

First the gambling bill was passed making it illegal for bank to transfer funds into online casinos for US residents, but not making it illegal for gamblers to play. Then the Shut down of NETeller to US members after the arrest of the co-founders. In April NETeller also stopped allowing Canadian members to use their account to transfer funds to casinos. London stock exchange drop major after these events since many online casinos are listed on the London Stock Exchange. The lastest gaming news is that Barney Frank is going to re-introduce the gambling bill to try and get it changed. Now it is unknown whether this is good or bad for the current online casinos, but it looks like the bill is aimed at allowing US casinos to be online licensed and regulated, but it might be more difficult for offshore casinos to get a license. Time will tell. More information to come as we get updated.
